Industry Sectors
Strictly speaking an industry and a sector can be considered as different elements of the economy, although for general purposes it is common to use the term 'industry sectors' rather than to define industries and sectors separately. A sector is really a very broad part of the economy within which large numbers of companies operate.
Countries and regions will tend to have economies that rely on certain sectors, depending upon natural resources, climate, trading partners, education, and transport and communications infrastructure. An industry is a more detailed and specific description of activities within the sectors. The manufacturing sector has within it many hundreds of industries which produce everything from cars to clothing, or electronic goods to food and drink.
